Miscanthus varieties thrive in moist to average soil and in full sun. Narrow leaved cultivars can tolerate drought better than wider blades. These grasses like long hot summers and may not bloom in fall in these conditions are not met. They add great winter interest but should be cut down early spring to make way for new growth.

Arching dark green leaves with silvery margins turn tan after frost. Tiny golden-copper tassel inflorescence become silvery white plumes in fall.
