Upright clumps of sword shaped leaves with large, open orange flowers with red centres and yellow throats are held above leaves. Grows best in average to moist, moderately fertile well drained soil. If the clump gets to thick, divide in early spring for better blooming. It is suggested to people in Zone 5 to plant them in early summer to promote good root growth and a thick mulch for the winter.
